CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Travel + Leisure knows a lot about America, or at least about how Americans perceive themselves and their neighbors.
So it might come as a shock that the Queen City, known for Uptown, banking and the NFL Panthers – including quarterback Cam Newton's, um, unique sense of style – was voted among the least attractive in the nation.

Those surveyed noted Charlotte's natural beauty and cleanliness, but, the magazine wrote, "Somehow, that didn't boost their attractive score."

Charlotte also lost out on Southern charm. The city ranked No. 14 on Travel + Leisure's Rudest Cities.
