CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill's new top cop starts his job Monday.

Former Fayetteville Police Chief Tom McCarthy will take over for Gregg Jarvies.

Jarvies retired in April after 30 years with the department. He is now serving on the panel investigating the Durham Police Department's handling of the Duke Lacrosse case.

McCarthy will make an annual salary of $122,000.
