Chapel Hill police investigating sex assault near UNC campus

Chapel Hill police are investigating a report over the weekend of a sexual assault on a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill police are investigating a report over the weekend of a sexual assault on a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student.

Chapel Hill Police Lt. Kevin Gunter said Monday that the attack happened in the early hours of Saturday morning at a home near the campus.

A detailed description of the attacker, described only as being a white, college-aged male, wasn't available.

A spokeswoman for UNC-Chapel Hill said students, faculty and staff were notified of the assault in an email over the weekend through the university's emergency information system, Alert Carolina.
