CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Town Council on Monday approved rules that will allow food trucks to operate in Chapel Hill.

Food trucks can set up on private property in commercial zoning districts, as long as they are at least 100 feet from any open restaurant. Truck-based vendors must get a permit from the town to operate.

The rules, which have been debated for months, are similar to those enacted in Raleigh last fall.
