CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill Fire Chief Dan Jones was charged with failure to reduce speed in a Wednesday wreck, police said Friday.

The four-vehicle wreck occurred at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near Municipal Drive, police said. Two people were transported to UNC Hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Jones was driving his town-issued vehicle when he rear-ended another vehicle and started a chain-reaction wreck, police said.

Police said it appears Jones was driving between 35 and 40 mph in a 35-mph zone.

Two other drivers also were cited in the wreck, one for not having a driver's license and the other for having an expired license.

The wreck remains under investigation.
