— A Chapel Hill man was indicted Monday on charges he had sex with the underage daughter of a woman he was living with, the Chatham County Sheriff's Office said.

Martin Delgado-Ramirez, 32, faces felony charges of statutory rape and indecent liberties with a child. He was being held on $10,000 secured bond at the Chatham County jail.

The girl's mother faces a charge of felony child abuse.

Authorities were tipped off to the allegations by the Department of Social Services, said Maj. Gary Blankenship, a sheriff's office spokesman.

White Eagle, maybe the cops could question you about anything that you may have done illegally and require proof that you didn't?

...like speeding. Nearly everyone exceeds the legal speed limit. Why shouldn't you get punished for each infraction?

...or cheating on your taxes. You remember that little box on the NC form, where you declare everything you've bought out of state and didn't pay NC taxes on, right? In fact, NC is suing Amazon.com to get their records of these purchases to track down violators.

Why shouldn't the cops look at all of these illegalities when they pull you over? Why shouldn't you carry proof with you...at all times...to prove that you didn't break any laws?

So if NC had a law similar to Arizona's, this person would have been questioned about his residency status (legal vs illegal). Would this had been considered profiling or would this have been a legitimate application of the law?

Why is ok for commenter FairPlay to insinuate that "hispanic men" have a propensity for pedophilia, but it's not ok to do the same for a group who has garnered global outrage over their actions...church leaders?

As far as we know, she could have been 17. Then again, the judge could be stupid fool.

These is another one of WRAL "peice-mill" stories with no useful information that is designed and written to stirup people resentments toward other people.

Did the "mother" actually approve of this????? Guess he'll plead insanity due to being under the influence of tequila or corona????

He was charged with RAPE. Statutory, but it's rape. And the mother was too - so honestly- it had to be pretty bad. $10K is a joke.

I read in the N&O yesterday that a man was in jail on $25K bond for a "lewd and lascivious" act on a 15 year old during a PARADE in downtown Raleigh. Obviously a much lesser offense.

What is wrong with this judge in CH? I realize this guy might not be able to come up with $10K or $1K secured any more than he could $100K - but at least make the bail less insulting to both the victim and SOCIETY - who does not want this 'man' anywhere near OUR children.

and of course nothing regarding this persons status - because if we start reporting status, then we have STATISTICS to prove the law in AZ is a needed REALITY. Can't have those annoying statistics around to foil our liberal agendas...

Leave it to WRAL to provide the least amount of information so that people's minds run wild. 10k bond? Well apparently there was no rape envolved. As far as the stort goes, the girl could have beeen any age under 18. As far as we know, she could have been 17. Then again, the judge could be stupid fool.
