CARY, N.C. — A longtime music store owner and high school band director in Cary died Wednesday after suffering a stroke, his family said.

Harold Burt was 88.

He owned and operated Burt Music Company, on Kildaire Farm Road, for more than 30 years. He also directed high school marching bands in Raleigh, Cary, Apex and Garner over his long career.

On Tuesday, Burt had a stroke while playing tennis, another of his favorite pastimes, his family said.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized.
