Cary police search for driver in hit-and-run crash

Officers arrived at 10708 Penny Road at about 6:50 p.m. and found Douglas Porter was struck by a car as he was driving a moped.

Porter's family said he has one of his eye sockets, his jaw, a finger and one of his ankles were broken in the crash. He remained hospitalized three days later.

Witnesses told police the driver of the car that hit Porter stopped long enough to pick up pieces of her car from the scene, depriving investigators of evidence, before leaving Porter in a ditch on the side of the road.

"To find out they knew they impacted (someone), cleaned up their own damage and left with a person laying on the side of the road is very troubling," said Porter's ex-wife, Lauren Porter.

Police said they are searching for the driver of a dark blue Honda Accord. She is described as black, between 50 and 60 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and was wearing glasses and a black baseball cap at the that said someone about being retired military.
