CARY, N.C. — Cary police on Thursday released the name of the second suspect in a robbery turned wreck on Chapel Hill Road.

Police said Carlton Lamont Amey, 40, of 4 Gateview Court in Durham, was the passenger in a car used to hit a man outside Wachovia bank on High House Road Monday.

The driver of the car, Shawn McRae, 35, of Durham, faces several felony charges. He was being held in the Wake County Jail under a $500,000 bond.

According to police, the suspects used their vehicle to hit Alexander Paul Jr., 66, in the parking lot of the bank. When he fell, they grabbed the money bag he was carrying and took off. Paul was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

They drove off, but after about two miles, the suspects hit another car on Chapel Hill Road near Weston Parkway.

Amey was still at WakeMed Hospital Thursday, so no charges have been filed against him yet, Capt. Michael Williams said.

Paul, a church deacon, suffered bruises and a twisted ankle. He said divine intervention kept the hurt from being much worse.
