CARY, N.C. — The Cary Town Council on Thursday approved spending $265,000 to design an expansion to the WakeMed Soccer Park stadium.

Plans call for increasing stadium seating from 7,000 to 10,000 and building more team locker rooms. The park has hosted multiple NCAA championships, and officials said they want to keep the venue competitive for future bids.

The cost for the expansion is expected to be about $2.4 million.
