A Carthage man was arrested late Thursday in the shooting death of his wife, authorities said.

<b>CARTHAGE, N.C.</b> — A Carthage man was arrested late Thursday in the shooting death of his wife, authorities said.

Gayle Lynn Frye, 66, of 396 Simpson Road, was charged with murder and was being held without bond Friday in the Moore County jail, Carthage Police Chief Chris McKenzie said.

Paramedics were dispatched to Frye's home Thursday afternoon after a call to 911 reported that someone needed resuscitation, McKenzie said. When paramedics arrived, they found Bertha Douglas Frye, 76, dead of a single gunshot wound, he said.

Police haven't determined a motive for the shooting, McKenzie said.
