FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A driver who police say refused to pull over for a traffic stop Friday ended up crashing his car into a Hardee's restaurant on Murchison Road, Fayetteville police said.

Officers tried to stop the car around noon while patrolling the residential area around Bonnie Doone, which has seen an increase in property crimes. The driver refused to stop and tried to elude the officers, driving in what police described as "a careless and reckless manner."

They chased the car until the driver crashed it into the Hardee's, 3405 Murchison Road.

The driver – identified as William D. Hill, 49 – then tried to run away, police said. Officers said they caught him a short distance away.

Hill was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center to be treated. The extent of his injuries was unknown.

Police had not filed any charges in the incident Friday afternoon, but were continuing to investigate.
