Canes draft party, Alice Cooper highlight our weekend Best Bets

Clare's Run for a Reason, an annual 5K and 1 mile fun run to raise money for Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood Program, is Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. The event is in honor of Clare Katherine Whitenack, a happy and thriving 19 month old who unexpectedly passed away in September 2009. Her family has never found out the cause of her death, but hope through the SUDC program that they will one day get answers.

Let's go Canes! Hockey season might still be a few months away, but you can cheer on the Carolina Hurricanes during the NHL Draft during a party Friday night at Rudino's Sports Corner in Raleigh. The voice of the Canes, John Forslund, the Storm Squad, Ron the Ref and Stormy will be on hand for contests and giveaways. The party is from 7 to 10 p.m.

The 1980s are back, at least for one night. The North Carolina Symphony is presenting "Totally Awesome 80s" on Saturday at Koka Booth Amphitheatre. The show will feature the hits of the decade including "Thriller," "Livin' on a Prayer," "Every Breath You Take" and "Welcome to the Jungle." 

The Tour de Fat is a costumed bike parade through Durham featuring local food, beer and entertainment. The parade starts at 10 a.m. from Diamond View Park at the American Tobacco Campus. The free event raises money for the North Carolina Active Transportation Alliance, a statewide advocacy organization promoting non-motorized transportation choices for residents and visitors to the state. Music will be provided by Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Sean Hayes, Yo-Yo People and Sssnakenstein.

And finally, rocker Alice Cooper will play the Raleigh Amphitheater on Friday night. Tickets start at $22 and are still available.
