Clare Katherine Whitenack was a happy and thriving 19-month old toddler when she unexpectedly passed away in September 2009. Her family was never given a reason why she died.
They hope to one day find closure. Her case was entered into a research project through the Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) Program, a cousin of SIDS that affects children after their first birthday.
To help remember Clare and raise money for SUDC, her family created the annual fundraiser Clare's Run for a Reason. The 5k run and 1 mile family walk is Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
There will be food, music, children's activities and a silent auction featuring items from the Carolina Hurricanes, Durham Bulls, Marbles Kids Museum, O2 Fitness, Bella Monica and more.
Registration ranges from $10 to $30 and closes Thursday night.
The race starts at 8 a.m.
