RALEIGH, N.C. — A new Walmart store on Old Wake Forest Road in north Raleigh opened Wednesday morning, the company announced.

Approximately 430 people have been hired to work at the store at 8031 Old Wake Forest Road, near Triangle Town Center Mall, store manager Turi Cason said. Full-time Walmart workers in North Carolina earn an average of $11.94 an hour, the company says.

The 176,400-square-foot store carries groceries and has a pharmacy and branch of WoodForest Bank. It will be open 24 hours a day.

The store has a revamped layout and environmentally friendly features, including skylights and LED lighting to reduce energy expenses.

"The layout of the store is easy to navigate, which will save our customers time as they shop for everyday necessities," said Cason. "By grouping the products that our customers most often purchase, including health and beauty and pet supplies, we are making one-stop shopping even easier."

At a grand-opening ceremony Wednesday, the company gave $25,000 to local groups, including the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Raleigh Fire Department and various schools.
