RTP hosting job fair Thursday

Posted July 9, 2009

— A job fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Radisson Hotel in Research Triangle Park, 150 Park Drive.

More than 20 companies will be in attendance, along with an expert who will examine resumes for free.

With unemployment at 11 percent, one of the highest in the country, more than 500,000 people are looking for work in North Carolina.

Career experts say job seekers can take advantage of job fairs if they have the right attitude.

“You prepare in your mind for this long before you ever get there,” said career counselor Becky Sansbury. “Don’t see this as going to find a job. It may be a job fair, but what you are doing is to find an interview. That will help change your whole mindset.”

    "Buy my book"

Skaternum: Agree that this one looked like a bust.

I had thought of going till I looked at the list of who was going to be there. Of the list posted it looked like the vast majority were 'own your own buisness' type "opportunities" and only a small percentage of attending companies that would actually have real jobs.

Only thing to hope would be the "and many more" would actually be something worthwhile..

I took a look at the list of participants. It's a sorry bunch of "companies." Of the 24 companies on the list, 4 are Armed forces recruiters, 2 are beauty products direct sales, 1 is a gold buying company, there are several staffing companies, and a couple of schools. I'm guessing that the schools don't have jobs, but are there to recruit people who can't find jobs to come back to their schools. Yikes!
