RALEIGH, N.C. — Midwest Airlines returned to Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Friday with a nonstop service between RDU and Milwaukee.

A 50-seat regional jet operated by Midwest Connect, which is part of Midwest, landed at RDU shortly afternoon and later departed for Milwaukee. The jet was “nearly full” on both flights, RDU spokesperson Mindy Hamlin said she was told by Midwest officials.

Midwest operated out of RDU between 1998 and 2001 but stopped service shortly after the terrorist attacks on 9-11-01.

“Bookings are very high for the next several weeks,” Hamlin said of the Milwaukee flight.

The return of Midwest capped a busy spring for RDU, which also welcomed ExpressJet to its lineup of air carriers.

Some 24 nonstop destinations have been added since April 1.

ExpressJet will add nonstop service to San Antonio on June 12.
