Planned North Hills East tower

RALEIGH, N.C. – Duke Realty and Kane Realty plan to build a 20-story office tower in the evolving North Hills East development, the companies said on Friday.

The tower would stand 265 feet tall and offer 275,000 square feet of mix-use space.

The North Hills East project is being developed by Kane on the east side of Six Forks Road just north of the I-440 beltline.

“We are very excited to partner with Duke Realty to develop the first office tower at North Hills,” said John Kane, chief executive officer of Kane Realty, in a statement. “Duke Realty is a powerhouse in providing top-notch office space in the Triangle and throughout the country. This collaboration continues our commitment to providing high-quality construction that meets our clients’ tastes.”

Kane developed the North Hills complex and related properties to the west of Six Forks Road.

“We really jumped at the opportunity to develop an office complex at North Hills because there is no other place like it in the Triangle,” said Jeff Sheehan, Senior Vice President of Duke’s Raleigh operations. “A lot of people talk about mixed use, but Kane has actually done it.”

North Hills contains a mix of residential, business and commercial space with numerous restaurants and a theater complex. A hotel is also planned.

The new tower will include restaurants and retail space as well as parking.

The partners plan to break ground this fall with the tower opening in early 2009.

Duke Realty, which is based in Indiana, oversees more than 5.2 million square feet of office and industrial real estate across the Triangle.
