RALEIGH, N.C. — A woman who was severely burned two months ago regained custody of her 8-month-old daughter Thursday from the family of her alleged assailant.

Shyona Perry was set on fire on Sept. 11. Roderick Sanders, 24, is charged with attempted murder and is being held at the Wake County jail under a $2 million bond.

Perry and Sanders have an 8-month-old daughter, and while Perry was hospitalized and recovering from her injuries, the Department of Social Services placed the infant in the custody of Sanders' parents.

The move upset Perry, and she pushed to regain custody upon her release from the hospital. During a closed session in Wake County District Court on Thursday, she was again granted custody of the child, according to her sister.
