Brush fire consumes 25 acres off I-540

A brush fire consumed approximately 25 acres off Interstate 540 East between Old Milburnie Road and Knightdale Boulevard on Tuesday morning.

KNIGHTDALE, N.C. — A brush fire consumed approximately 25 acres off Interstate 540 East between Old Milburnie Road and Knightdale Boulevard on Tuesday morning.

Authorities said they believe hot metal from a catalytic converter sparked the fire, which started around 10:45 a.m. and lasted about three and a half hours.

Two small maintenance sheds were damaged, along with 25 acres of field. No one was injured.

Approximately 50 firefighters responded to the scene, including the Knightdale Department of Public Safety, New Hope Fire, East Wake Fire and the U. S. Forestry service.
