Brothers charged in two home invasions could be linked to third

Jahaad Tariem Allah Marshall, 26, and Shabar Master Marshall, 16, were arrested Jan. 7 after, police say, one of them shot a man in his spine and sexually assaulted his wife in the middle of the night at a home on Lane Street.

According to the warrant – to search a room at the Raleigh Inn on Maitland Drive, where the brothers were staying – a police officer was following a car seen leaving the Lane Street house when he saw someone throw a .25-caliber Raven pistol from the vehicle. The gun was later identified as being identical to one stolen from a similar home invasion on Sherry Drive on Dec. 30.

In both the Lane Street and the Sherry Drive home invasions, according to the warrant, the robbers were dressed in black and were armed with handguns and a stun gun.

In the Sherry Drive case, one of the victims was stunned, and the men stole money from a safe, as well as jewelry, a computer and the Raven pistol. Before leaving, according to the warrant, the men handcuffed the victims to their bed.

In the Lane Street case, a couple woke up in the middle of the night to find two men in their bedroom. The woman was attacked before she was able to escape for help, and the man was paralyzed after being shot.

The Marshalls, police said, were arrested a short time later after a high-speed chase.

According to the search warrant, police seized from the hotel room Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3 game consoles, two computers, a table computer, a printer, 4 grams of marijuana and several other items.

A Raleigh police spokesman said neither man has been charged in the Sherry Drive case but that investigators are considering filing further charges, but he could not elaborate.

Two days after their arrest, however, both Shabar and Jahaad Marshall were charged in connection with a Dec. 11 home invasion on Dorety Place in Raleigh in which they allegedly broke in, held a woman hostage and robbed her of $15 and two laptop computers.

The brothers each face more than a dozen charges in the two crimes.

In the Lane Street case, they each face two charges of first-degree kidnapping and two charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon. They also each face one charge of first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree sex offense, attempted first-degree rape and attempted first-degree sex offense. Jahaad Marshall also faces one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In the Dorety Place case, they each face charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of stolen property and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.
