Brief chase in Durham ends in one-car wreck
A man attempting to outrun Durham County Sheriff's deputies ran off the road and into a utility pole Wednesday night.

DURHAM, N.C. — A man attempting to outrun Durham County Sheriff's deputies ran off the road and into a utility pole Wednesday night.
Samuel Trice, 38, was pulled over at the intersection of Ellis Road and Pettigrew Street for a burnt out light over his license plate at about 10 p.m., a sheriff's office spokesman said.
Upon checking Trice's license, deputies found that it had expired and that he was wanted for failure to pay child support. When a deputy asked Trice to step out of the car, he yelled, "Oh, hell no!" and sped away.
Deputies believe Trice lost control of the car. It swerved off the right side of the road and into a pole 45 seconds later. The North Carolina Highway Patrol estimated Trice's speed at impact at 95 mph.
Trice was taken to Duke Hospital where he was listed in serious condition on Thursday afternoon.
Upon his release from the hospital, Trice faces charged of fleeing to elude, failure to stop for blue lights and siren, driving with a revoked license and possession of marijuana.
