'Breaking Bad'-style meth lab uncovered in Lee County

A pair from Lee County is looking at possible life sentences after law enforcement raided a mobile meth lab resembling a scene from the AMC television show "Breaking Bad."

Lee County couple arrested for mobile meth lab

A couple from Lee County was arrested in an RV after law enforcement raided a mobile meth lab resembling a scene from the AMC television show "Breaking Bad."

In a joint effort, Lee County narcotics agents, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the Clandestine Lab Unit searched a vehicle parked at 6831 Old Jefferson Davis Highway. The search uncovered fentanyl, methamphetamine, precursor chemicals, and equipment utilized in the production of methamphetamine.

Suspects Eddie Michael Bird, 43, and Rachel Leigh Mabe, 36, were located inside the RV along with a minor.

Both Bird and Mabe were arrested and charged with the following:

  • Manufacturing methamphetamine.
  • Two counts of possession with Intent to sell and deliver schedule II-controlled substance (Methamphetamine, Fentanyl).
  • Five counts of possession of precursor materials with Intent to manufacture methamphetamine.
  • Maintaining dwelling for sale of controlled substance.
  • Misdemeanor child abuse.
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bird and Mabe appeared before a district court judge and were issued a $100,000 secured bond.
