<b>FORT BRAGG, N.C.</b> — An 82nd Airborne Division paratrooper died Tuesday of non-combat injuries in Kandahar, Afghanistan, authorities said Wednesday.

Capt. James E. Chaffin, 27, of West Columbia,  S.C., was a fire support officer with Headquarters and Headquarters  Company, 3rd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 1st  Brigade Combat Team. He was deployed with 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st  Brigade Combat Team as a brigade liaison  officer.

Mykia Daniel, an eighth grader at Ligon Middle School, was shot and killed on Monday in a north Raleigh apartment. A 16-year-old was charged with her murder.
