Bragg paratrooper dies in training accident

An 82nd Airborne paratrooper died during an airborne training operation at Fort Bragg Saturday night, the military announced.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — An 82nd Airborne paratrooper died during an airborne training operation at Fort Bragg Saturday night, the military announced.

Staff Sgt. Jamal Clay, 25, of Elida, Ohio, died when his parachute malfunctioned, officials said.

Clay was a vehicle recovery supervisor with Company G, 1st Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team.

He joined the Army in 2004 and deployed to Iraq in 2006 and 2008, officials said.

Clay is survived by his wife, Jasmine Clay, and two children, Jamier Brown, 6, and Janye McKenzie, 2.
