Bragg paratrooper dies in Afghanistan after IED attack

A paratrooper stationed at Fort Bragg died last week after being blasted by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan, the Defense Department said Monday.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A paratrooper stationed at Fort Bragg died last week after being blasted by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan, the Defense Department said Monday.

Staff Sgt. Tyler J. Smith, 24, of Licking, Mo., died April 3 in Kandahar province. 

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.
