WALLACE, N.C. — Wallace police arrested a probationer in connection with a drive-by shooting Saturday that killed a 9-year-old New York boy visiting relatives in Duplin County.

Meshan Kentay Macmillian, 24, faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of Leon Albe Halley III. Macmillian was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling.

Relatives told WNCT News that Leon's family had come to Wallace on Friday night, and on Saturday afternoon, he was playing video games in the living room when he was struck by two bullets going through the house at 410 Satchell St.

Wallace Police Chief Bobby Maready said that the shooting stemmed from a long-running feud and that the boy wasn't target and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Maready said that Mcmillian wasn't acting alone, and he expects to make more arrests in the case.

Mcmillian was denied bond and scheduled to appear in court June 1.

He is on probation for August 2011 convictions for felony breaking-and-entering and drug charges, according to state Division of Adult Correction records. He has a total of 11 convictions dating to 2005, has been put on probation four times and served one 8-month jail sentence.
