PITTSBORO, N.C. — The body of 50-year-old man who drowned Sunday while on a family outing at Jordan Lake was found Friday morning.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, which had been conducting the search for Ricky Hill of Siler City, said a fisherman on the lake spotted a body and called authorities. Crews responded and recovered the body, which was identified as Hill, said Sgt. Reggie Barker of the wildlife commission.

Hill was on an inner-tube that was being pulled by a boat Sunday afternoon when he fell into the water and never resurfaced. An exhaustive rescue mission that began that afternoon turned into a recovery mission by Monday morning, as authorities said Hill was presumed dead.

Crews searched the lake from dawn to dusk each day, using sonar and sniffer dogs to locate Hill, while his family members waited anxiously on shore.

Barker said alcohol was not a factor, there were no boating violations and Hill was in good health and knew how to swim.

Hill’s brother-in-law, Bill Lundsford, told WRAL News on Tuesday that Hill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved to fish and spend free time at the lake. He said Hill was a hard worker with a great sense of humor.
