Body found after fire burns garage apartment at Raleigh home

Wake County authorities are investigating after a body was found following a fire early Friday at a home on Brookdale Drive. Authorities said the fire happened in a garage apartment.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County authorities are investigating after a body was found following a fire early Friday at a home on Brookdale Drive.

Authorities said the fire happened in a garage apartment at 7724 Brookdale Drive.

Fire officials arrived at the home at about 3 a.m., and investigators said the garage was engulfed in flames.

About an hour later, the Fire Marshal's Office was called to investigate the cause of the fire. The body was discovered shortly after investigators arrived at the home.

The body has not been identified and has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
