CLAYTON, N.C. — A 19-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday after he was struck by a car and thrown off his bicycle on U.S. Highway 70 in Clayton.

Police said Dylan Paul Chapman was crossing the highway near Moore Street around 1:20 p.m. when the car hit him and knocked him into the westbound lanes. He was then run over by another car.

Chapman was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh, where he was listed in critical condition Thursday morning.

Authorities said they don't plan to file charges. Both drivers had the green light in their lanes of travel and the bicyclist crossed the highway against the light, investigators said.
