    "I met a line of 10 cars (I counted)following behind a bicycle this morning on Auburn-Knightdale Road at 7:05"

That is the fault of the first car's driver not being confident enough to pass a single cyclist, assuming he wasn't riding in the middle of the road. I've had large trucks pass me safely while riding on similar roads without veering across the centerline. If they can do it any car can do it. Also, this is a seperate issue than the accident in Hillsborough, which was unfortunate and did not involve a "cyclist", it was a kid playing on his bike - there is a difference.

Don't blow the horn to tell a bicyclist you're passing- like a deer, it might scare them into swerving into your path. Just pass.

Having been caught behind critical mass group in down town Durham I can relate to your alls frustration with riders which are disrespectful of others using the road and don't follow traffic laws. However those comments don't apply here. This was an accident involving a boy riding in a small neighborhood in a location that kids should be able to ride their bikes and walk alone the road with out fear of being run over.

They ride the most at rush hour traffic it seems and they want to be respected on the road. I will respect them when I see them obeying all of the laws just like I have to in a motor vehicle.I live near Carpenter Pond which has a ton of bike traffic and they will shoot you the bird if you blow the horn to let them to let know you are passing. How do you respect that ? It's Sad that the little boy was hit.

Almost got rear ended on Little River Rd once when a deer come out of the woods and the speeding pickup from behind almost didn't slow down enough to avoid a collision. It's so sad to read this and we don't know at this time what happened or who was at fault but I will say this. Too many people speed in this small neighborhood which is half in Durham County and half in Orange off of Guess Rd. The speed limit is 35 and because of the hills, which a driver can not see over, exceeding this speed is very dangerous plenty of children are in this neighborhood. Little River Rd isn't more than a mile long why are we in such a hurry? Please pray for this child.

I met a line of 10 cars (I counted)following behind a bicycle this morning on Auburn-Knightdale Road at 7:05. You either have to have a death wish or be dumb as a rock to ride a bicycle on such a busy road as people are going to work (or coming home from work).
