Bass Pro Shops coming to Cary

print friendly

Enormous outdoor retailer Bass Pro Shops plans to open a 105,000-square foot store in Cary within the next year, the company announced Thursday.

The store would be located on Harrison Avenue just off Interstate 40 and would be the second North Carolina location for the company. There is another store in Concord, just outside Charlotte.

Bass Pro Shops cater primarily to hunters and fishermen, and the Triangle is home to the nation's sixth largest community of anglers, the company noted.

Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht cited the retailer's reputation for environmental stewardship, saying, "As one of North America's renowned outdoor retailers, they have a strong reputation for quality products and services that will serve Cary's active and fit community well. Their leadership in environmental stewardship will be a great fit with Cary's sustainability initiatives."

The Cary store will offer everything from hiking clothes and fishing boats to bird feeders and camping equipment. It is expected to open in late 2013 or early 2014.

FYI... There is a local gun shop on Hwy 54 just passed Woody's heading toward Raleigh. They and called "National Guns and Gear". Someone commented that there were no places to buy guns in Cary and no mom and pop stores. Although a chain, there is also a D@ck's Sporting Goods at Crossroads.

I'm actually surprised since the new Gander Mountain just opened up in the big shopping center at the corner of Chapel Hill Rd. & Cary Pkwy in Morrisville (where the new Target is). Do they really need both of those that close together? And unless it's going in the Carolina Pottery spot - that's going to RUIN the look of Harrison Rd if they cut out some of the pretty wooded areas along the that road...not to mention how it will screw up traffic for those that live in that area! Bass Pro Shops are HUGE buildings.

I'm with 4Strikes...I can't see them in that building. The 2 I've been to are large stand-alone buildings with miles of parking. As for me2you...this isn't Walmart or Best Buy. I think there's only 50-60 in the country, and this only the 2nd in NC. They are a mom/pop that expanded. I just hope it's a full Outdoor World, not some small satellite deal...that would be very disappointing. 105k sf is on the small side for them.

The only bad thing about it beingin Cary is all the camo will have to be in shades of beige.

ummmmmmm......thinking CP has been gone from there for quite some time now........
