Baby, mother die in fire at Camp Lejeune home

A six-month-old girl died Friday afternoon when fire consumed her home on Camp Lejeune.

A duplex in Camp Lejeune's Midway Park caught fire Friday. and one child died.
CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — A six-month-old girl and her mother died after fire struck their home on Camp Lejeune Friday afternoon. They were both home when the fire began, at about 2:30 p.m., in the living room of their Midway Park home. 

They were taken to the Naval Hospital on Camp Lejeune, where the infant died Friday. Her mother, 22, was in critical condition Friday night and was transferred to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

She died Saturday afternoon.

The name of the child and her parents are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin. Base officials are investigating what caused the blaze.
