Autopsy: 3-year-old girl found in bathtub did not drown

WRAL News

— A 3-year-old girl who was found dead in the bathtub inside her Raleigh apartment last spring did not drown, according to an autopsy released Wednesday.

The medical examiner found no fluid in the stomach or sinuses of Skye McLeod, indicating that she most likely did not drown.

Her death was ruled undetermined, although the medical examiner said in the report that the girl most likely suffered a natural death, such as heart arrhythmia or a seizure, that cannot be diagnosed through autopsy.

Skye was found unresponsive on March 20 after she and her younger sibling were briefly left alone in the bathtub at their home in Raleigh Gardens Apartment of Saint Giles Street.

A family friend said the mother’s boyfriend was babysitting at the time, and police released a 911 call made by an unidentified male caller who frantically asked for help because the girl was not breathing.

It takes this long for an autopsy, when they are trying to put the death on the boyfriend or someone else. Sometime things like this happen, but I guess he wasn't connected enough or had enough money to have this over and done with, last spring. Raleigh Gardens Apartment address, was not in that families favor to avoid the assumption of foul play.

"Her death was ruled undetermined, although the medical examiner said in the report that the girl most likely suffered a natural death, such as heart arrhythmia or a seizure, that cannot be diagnosed through autopsy."

Sounds like the medical examiner didn't think there was foul play involved.

Undetermined doesn't mean foul play wasn't involved, it just means there's no evidence of just exactly what did happen.

And for those saying a 3-year old can have a heart attack, sure - but wouldn't that show up in an autopsy?

it's my understand the autopsy found nothing, so this could just as easily have been natural causes - but what were those causes then?

There has to be evidence of something.

    Not necessarily, imo.
"this is undetermined cause of death".

The same way anyone at any age can have one.

Anyone can have a heart attack at any age. She could have been born with a heart problem that went undiagnosed because maybe she didn't show any symptoms.

No, the boyfriend was never charged. You are probably thinking about all the people commenting on here about what a horrible person the boyfriend was and how he was to blame for the little girl's death. A lot of people acting as though their stuff doesn't stink.

I agree with 678. If I remember correctly the boyfriend did get charged with something, but that was just the police being police and finding wrong doing where none existed until they got involved
