<b>FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.</b> — Cumberland County authorities are investigating a reported sexual assault at Douglas Byrd Middle School.

A special needs student at the school told her grandmother last Thursday that an adult male raped her between two portable classrooms on Sept. 15, authorities said. The girl's grandmother took her to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office was called to investigate her allegation.
