DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham County landfill on East Club Boulevard was evacuated Thursday afternoon as a bomb squad investigated whether a refrigerator dropped off at the site contained explosives, police said.

The locked refrigerator was covered with labels indicating that explosives were inside, police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said, but it was unclear whether anything was actually inside.

The Durham County Sheriff's Office bomb squad opened the refrigerator and found no explosives.

Police closed off East Club Boulevard at Camden Avenue and diverted traffic while the bomb squad investigated.
