HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — Authorities evacuated about 15 to 20 homes near downtown Holly Springs Wednesday morning due to a gas leak.

The 2-inch natural gas line ruptured at about 9:45 a.m. near the intersection of Raleigh and Earp streets, town officials said. The leak was stopped at about 10:30 a.m.

Officials said it could be several hours before the road reopens, but residents should be allowed back into their homes by lunchtime.
