Authorities: 1 hospitalized in 'suspicious' Johnston County fire

One man was injured Tuesday afternoon in a Johnston County fire that authorities are investigating as suspicious.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — One man was injured Tuesday afternoon in a Johnston County fire that authorities are investigating as suspicious.

The fire broke out at about 2:30 p.m. at a shed behind a home at 45 Green Bramble Court.

Multiple fire departments as well as investigators with the Johnston County Sheriff's Office were on the scene.

One man was taken by helicopter to a local hospital for treatment. His condition was unknown, but authorities said he suffered from smoke inhalation.

Authorities did not know the cause of the fire. Although they said the circumstances surrounding the fire are suspicious, the sheriff's office said they are not searching for any suspects.
