Audit: Guns, drug evidence missing from Wilson sheriff's office
An audit found that guns and drugs supposed to be held as evidence are missing from the Wilson County Sheriff's office, according to a report released this week.
Posted — UpdatedSixteen guns, cocaine, marjiuana, a suspected bone fragment, a blood sample and pulled head hairs were listed as evidence in a database but couldn't be located, the audit found.
Four cases with questionable evidence were turned over to the Wilson County District Attorney's Office, which could sent them to the state Bureau of Investigation for further review.
The audit covered 2007-2011, years in which the sheriff's office was run by former Sheriff Wayne Gay.
Current Sheriff Calvin Woodard, who defeated Gay in last year's election, requested the audit once he took office. The audit was conducted by Eastern Forensic Consulting Inc. of Greenville.
