Attempted robbery reported near UNC residence hall

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill officials sent a crime alert to students late Thursday after an attempted robbery was reported near Avery Residence Hall.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill officials sent a crime alert to students late Thursday after an attempted robbery was reported near Avery Residence Hall.

UNC police were called to the dorm shortly before 11 p.m.

The victim, who was driving in the area to make a food delivery, told police that a male suspect approached them and left the area of foot.

No weapon was seen during the incident. The suspect was described as a man 18 to 25 years old. He was about 6 feet 2 inches tall, had short hair and a goatee and was wearing a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants.

No other information about the incident has been released.
