PITTSBORO, N.C. — A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged Thursday with killing a Bear Creek man, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said.

Andrew Darius Marsh, 26, of 5398 Moncure-Pittsboro Road in Moncure, faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Raymond Cotten Jr., 35.

Marsh, who was arrested in Sanford, was placed in the Chatham County jail Thursday under no bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday.

Cotten was found dead at a residence next to his Pinecrest Drive home on March 26. He suffered a single gunshot wound to the torso and was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators said.

Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots and saw a vehicle leaving the area immediately after the shots were fired, authorities said.

Detectives did not release a motive in the shooting.
