Apex man charged in domestic assault

Posted July 6, 2009

— Chatham County sheriff's deputies charged an Apex man with trying to strangle a woman when she picked up their baby from his house Friday night.

Deputies said that Eric Wyrick, 26, of 2239 Holland Chapel Road, cursed at Veronica Salas and grabbed her by the neck. She managed to escape and called 911.

The assault left marks on Salas' neck, deputies said.

Wyrick was charged with felony assault by strangulation and assault on a female. He was being held in the Chatham County Jail Monday under a $1,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for July 27.

Good to know I can go around town slapping females and get out with $100 to a bonds man. NC has great laws.

Nice bond. I am sure that makes her feel really safe. AND, what about the safety of the child!?!?!?! Violence is violence and should not be tolerated, as it only begets more violence.

Why do they always leave out the reason for the assult??

Assault on a female is a worse charge than just a regular assault. Its much like assault on a government official. What it says is that women are basically inferior creatures and must be protected from the evil men in society. What a crock. Assault is assault no matter who the victim is. The laws should reflect this and stop creating special circumstances for special classes of people such as women and cops.

what's with this assault on a female I keep seeing, is there an assault on a male as well? because I know that the US of A doesn't want to discriminate. No one here can tell me that a woman is looked down upon when she hits a man the same way a man is looked down upon.

At least she called police. Next time she may not have been so lucky to get away.

They also got him for felony first degree possession of a wicked sweet stache.

This should not even be in the news. You can pull a criminal activity report and see that their are assaults all day everyday. Oh better yet look at the court websites and see them. So this is news why?

Assault should be assault; why add the "female" bias? That says females are less (or more) equal.
