RALEIGH, N.C. — State authorities canceled an Amber Alert Monday morning for two young Virginia boys after they were found safe in Halifax County.

The alert was issued in North Carolina earlier Monday after police in Newport News, Va., suspected Ta'Vyion Blockett, 5, and Dante Blockett, Jr., 6, could be traveling with Sommer LaRouche Pannell, 20, to Greensboro.

Authorities said the boys' mother knows Pannell and asked her to take the children across the street to a park, but Pannell drove away with the boys, prompting an Amber Alert.

A Northampton County resident heard the alert and called police, who then found the boys safe and unharmed. The case will be handled by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office. No other information was released.
