— State authorities canceled an Amber Alert Monday morning for two young Virginia boys after they were found safe in Halifax County.

The alert was issued in North Carolina earlier Monday after police in Newport News, Va., suspected Ta'Vyion Blockett, 5, and Dante Blockett, Jr., 6, could be traveling with Sommer LaRouche Pannell, 20, to Greensboro.

Authorities said the boys' mother knows Pannell and asked her to take the children across the street to a park, but Pannell drove away with the boys, prompting an Amber Alert.

A Northampton County resident heard the alert and called police, who then found the boys safe and unharmed. The case will be handled by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office. No other information was released.

susang - "Okay, this is a weird story. Wonder what was going on?"

    What was REALLY going on.

"The original story was that this woman was working and another lady came in asking about a ride to NC. The store clerk (the "Mom") told the lady that if she would watch her kids until she got off of work that she would take her to NC. Then gave her the keys to her car, the lady then took all three and dissapeared."

    If true, well ... DUH!!!

I guess my first comment had something bad in it, but here it goes again.

Ah yes, The Amber "sky is falling, let's cry wolf" alert system. I wonder how many times this has actually prevented a tragedy that wouldn't have otherwise been handled by the old system. All about maintaining the facade that you desperately need to re-elect your dear government officials to keep your kids safe.
