Amber Alert

— Authorities canceled an Amber Alert Wednesday after 4-month-old Jalleel Xamir Howard was found safe in South Carolina.

Police arrested Lonnie Cecil Buchanan Jr., 41, and charged him with kidnapping. He is accused of abducting the Union County boy while a woman distracted the boy's mother in a doctor's office parking lot.

Buchanan is not the baby's father, according to authorities. No other information was released.

I am in that situation now(sleep deprived). I have a 4 month old, a 3 year old, and a 10 year old. I am up fedding every 2 hours and also work a full time job. I am not judging, but because of stories like these, I am even more weary of strangers around my kids. First, I dont let people get too close because of germs, and second, I see those signs up of missing kids everytime I go into a Walmart and Target and it makes me sad. You cant be too careful anymore with your babies.
I went into Target the other week and a woman couldnt open her car door (someone had parked too close to her). Another lady was getting out of her car to go into Target and she asked the woman (stranger) to watch her infant! I was shocked!

I agree with the comment about the Amber Alert being resolved as opposed to cancelled. I also see, thanks for pointing it out, that the baby is in a car with no carseat. Isn't there a law about that...duh! If you have a baby, you are blessed...do everything in your power to keep that blessing safe & ALIVE!

"How distracted are you that someone can lift your infant out of the car seat or carrier?"

I could see how this could happen. Good Lord, when mine was 4 months, I was operating on about 4 hours of sleep per day. All it takes is a few seconds, and if you think your child is safely in his carrier for the 30 seconds it takes to snatch him... it's too late.

My son has definitely taught me not to judge others too harshly. No matter how vigilant you are, bad things can still happen.

Now if only the justice system would do the job they are supposed to do. Put he and his lady friend away forever.

So happy for the mother, and glad baby is doing well. How scary and horrifying for her.
