Rock slide closes I-40 in Haywood
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The outside lane of Interstate 40 westbound near the Tennessee border was closed for about 12 hours Saturday as N.C. Department of Transportation crews worked to clean up a rock slide.

The rock slide happened just after midnight near mile marker seven in Haywood County. Officials said about 150 tons of material spilled onto the highway. Ten dump trucks were used to remove the rock.

All lanes of I-40 West traffic were reopened around 12:30 p.m.

In early February, the same stretch of I-40 West was closed after a rock slide left 600 tons of rock in the highway.
