BENSON, N.C. — State troopers charged an adult driver Friday in a wreck involving four 16-year-old West Johnston High School students earlier in the week.

Darline Desdhenes, 37, of Clayton, was charged with driving left of center in a head-on collision at N.C. Highways 210 and 50 Tuesday. Troopers said that she swerved several times before her Ford Mustang hit a Honda occupied by the students.

Mitchell Barton, who was in the front seat of the Honda, was airlifted to Duke University Hospital. Two back-seat passengers, Joseph Mannino and Bradley Austin, were transported to WakeMed in Raleigh, along with Desdhenes.

The Honda driver, Erin Marshall, did not have to be treated at a hospital.

Updated conditions for the wreck victims were not available.
