WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Eight people were taken to the hospital after a three-car crash Monday night near Wake Forest.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 401 and Moores Pond Road near the Franklin County line, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Troopers at the scene did not know how the crash happened.

Rain had soaked the ground, and the intersection was marked only by a stop sign for traffic on Moores Pond Road.

The severity of the injuries was not released.
