70-year-old woman accused of shooting man

A 70-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly shooting a man with a .22-caliber rifle Friday, according to an arrest warrant.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A 70-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly shooting a man with a .22-caliber rifle Friday, according to an arrest warrant.

Sallie Harris Pennington, of 1345 Wrentree Circle, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The victim, Troy Ayers,57, lives with Pennington, according to the warrant.

Ayers suffered a gunshot wound to the ankle. Police said he drove himself to the hospital and was accompanied by Pennington.

Pennington was being held in the Wake County Jail under a $25,000 bond.

According to state Department of Correction records, Pennington was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in Wake County in 2001. She served a year in prison.
