57-year-old killed in Johnston County crash

One man was killed following a single-car crash Saturday night in Johnston County.

MIDDLESEX, N.C. — One man was killed following a single-car crash Saturday night in Johnston County.

Highway Patrol troopers said Joseph Randy Creech, 57, of Middlesex, lost control while driving around a sharp curve on Crockers Nub Road just before 8 p.m.

Creech overcorrected and struck two trees on the opposite side of the road. troopers said.

Creech was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said he was not wearing a seat belt and was found in the backseat of the car.

Authorities said Creech lived about 1 mile away from where the crash occurred.

The crash remains under investigations, but troopers said they believe speed and alcohol may have played a role.
